Hello,
My name is Afrodite Zegers. I am a Greek and Dutch Sailor living in Den Haag, Zuid-Holland, Nederland. I am truly passionate about sailing. I am a two time Olympian in the 470 class. I have participated in the Olympic Games in Rio 2016, where I acquired the 4th place and in the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2021 where I achieved a top 10 final result.
After the Olympics of 2021, I had a severe sailing accident sailing a new olympic class (catamaran). My left knee got damaged (ripped ACL, crushed bone and a tare in the knee cap). The past year I have focussed on my career outside of sports and personal development. When I finally stepped in the boat last summer I realised that this is what feels like oxygen to me and decided to aim, together with my new partner Robin Becker, for my 3rd olympic campaign. My goal is to become one of the best athletes in my sport and aim for my participation to my 3rd Olympic Games, namely Paris 2024. To achieve that I need your help to turn the my goal into a reality.
Right now we do not have any financial support from the Dutch Olympic Committee. We are combining work and sailing in order to be able to pay for the necessary costs of living. By supporting us today, you are helping us achieve our goal and inspire young people on the possibilities to work efficiently, being resilient, achieve a good work life balance and keep on excelling even after a very tough injury and moments.
Besides sailing I am a Law graduate, concert pianist, NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) practitioner and currently a Financial Crime Consultant at Ernst-Young Netherlands.
To excel, I need to be constantly push my limits. I am ready to work hard, but at the same time, I know that the road to success will be costly. Thank you for your support!
