Be part of my journey to the Nationals!
Hello,
My name is Dakota Howard and I am from Spruce Grove, AB. I have always loved the water but fell in love with swimming as a toddler when my mom was teaching swim lessons at our local pool - TransAlta TriLeisure Centre. You could definitely say I grew up at the pool! I loved it when my mom would pick me up from my preschool class in her towel because it meant that we were going swimming!
In 2010, my family and I we were blessed to watch the Vancouver Olympics from the Olympic village right in Vancouver! Participating in the Olympic festivities, despite being super young (and Winter Olympics), was one of the coolest experiences of my life! Of course now I just want to be part of the competition!
"To be a champ you need to train like a champ"- words spoken by my coach that has inspired me since I was 10. My teammates know me for my hard work and willingness to push my limits! Training includes working hard in the pool and dryland, reviewing Team Canada and world competitors techniques and habits, following a balanced swimmers diet which consists of a LOT of food, and how to be an encouraging teammate. I am blessed with an amazing coach, we regularly review how I can do better in training to get that extra edge. On top of training and goal setting, I am a French Immersion student who is just completing grade 9 and will be entering my first year of high school in the fall.
This year my performance at the Bell Canadian Swimming Trials in Victoria helped to earn my spot representing Alberta this summer at a couple fantastic events. Swim Alberta selected an amazing group of athletes to represent our province at the Mel Zajac Jr International Meet (June 2 - 5, 2022), as well as the 2022 Canada Games in Niagara!
My goal is to become one of the best all around female swimmers in Canada and that will include attending world events such as Fina World's, Commonwealth Games, Pan Pacific's and the Olympic games! But in the meantime I need your help to turn the impossible into a reality!
The road to success is ongoing and will be costly, and here is where your support will help me with the ability to attend these milestone events! The Speedo Canadian Jr and Sr Championships will be held in Montreal July 25 - 31, my attendance and performance (as a Junior) at these meets affect the selection process for teams created by Swim Alberta and Swimming Canada.
By supporting me today you are investing into something bigger than just a fundraiser. And if you wish to support me monthly, you're truly changing my life! Thank you for your support!
