MAKEACHAMP is making it possible for 200 students from Cégep André Laurendeau to reach their sports dreams. André Laurendeau and MAKEACHAMP are partnering for the first time to enable crowdfunding for college sports, with 11 teams spanning from hockey to golf setting out to raise an ambitious $50,000.

With the social media revolution and increasing numbers of people sitting on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, athletes and teams are using “crowd-funding” platforms such as MAKEACHAMP for their fundraising. However, it was not always like that, teams and athletes had to rely on traditional fundraising methods to get the funds they need to cover the increasing costs of playing sports.

Indian swimmer Rehan Poncha, who has represented his country in the Olympics and is also a recipient of the Arjuna Award, has written an open letter to Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, where he has highlighted the sad state of affairs in Indian sports. Poncha, 26, talks about his experience as an athlete in the letter and urges the Prime Minister to look into the issue and see to it that the athletes in India are given the respect they deserve and are not treated like nobodys.
